This is a long day walk to visit a spectacular granite rock formation deep in Namadgi National Park known as Split Rock. This is not a walk for new walkers - some walking experience required due to the total distance (20-22km), elevation gain (900m) and mix of on and off track walking with some rock scrambles likely required.
To get an idea of the walk see notes here: https://johnevans.id.au/16-april-2016-split-rock/ or here: https://johnevans.id.au/10-june-2023-split-rock/
As a day walk there will be no pre-trip. Details will be finalised by email - please check your email Friday evening, and sign ups are only permitted until Friday evening 27/9. It will be meet at ANU Sport at 0715 Sunday, drive to Orroral Valley and then circa 6km of fire trail walking, 3.5km along the Australian Alps Walking track then off track for approx 1km to the top of the hill and Split Rock. Lunch on a nearby rock platform then back to the car. We are likely to be walkling up to 8 hours - starting about 0815 and back to the cars around 5pm. Aim to be back in Canberra around 6pm - though it may be a little later if we are moving slowly.
Usual day walking gear required - hat, water (3L), lunch, snacks, warm layers, rain jacket etc.
