This 5-session course is aimed towards both aspiring and experienced climbing trip leaders. For new trip leaders, the program provides an opportunity to build confidence learn how to lead climbing trips from our experienced members and guest speakers. Experienced trip leaders are heavily encouraged to apply and pass on your knowledge. Course content and discussions will also be developed later into club SOPs and documentation, and dropping in as a seasoned trip leader will also allow you to have your say on our policies going forward.
The dates for each session will be determined after an availability poll has been sent out, that way as many people can attend as possible. I'm hoping for a 10-week window to run through the following lesson schedule:
Session 1: The ANUMC, leadership and nailing the approach
- Location: Either pub or lecture theatre at ANU
Session 2: Teaching lead climbing/ building safe knots and anchors.
- Location: ANU Sport climbing walls
Session 3: Teaching lead belaying, soft catches and belayer safety
- Location: Local Canberra crag or ANU Sport climbing walls
Session 4: Managing and Reporting Risk

- Guest Speaker (TBC): AJ, ANU Sport Safety Consultant
Session 5: Climbing Etiquette and Best Practice
