Keen to try backcountry skiing for the first time? This is your chance!
I will be running a ski tour on Sunday the 17th of August (weather depending, may shift to Saturday), aimed at folks who are comfortable on skis/split boards to ski down blue runs at a resort, but with little or no experience skiing in the backcountry.
We’ll be starting from the top of the Kosciuszko chairlift at Thredbo (We will purchase a Thredbo Backcountry Pass ($50). This gives you a single return chairlift ride up to access to the surrounding backcountry) and heading East to some gentle slopes for you to familiarise yourself with Alpine Touring gear, exploring the rolling terrain that lies beyond the resort boundary, where we will plan to either catch the gondola back down to the Village or ski down.
We will be leaving Canberra early (around 5am) to make the most of the day and the snow. Final timing will be confirmed closer to the date.
Total numbers will depend on the number of experienced skiers who end up joining.
