Dark Canyoning

The aim will be to practice canyoning skills within the dark confines of the Wee Jasper caves. The plan is to do a day trip taking in Dip Cave and if time permits Dogleg and Signature Caves.
The decision to abseil or walk-in will depend on individual's abseiling experience and whether I can scrounge up an assistant leader.

Caves inherit specific challenges and may not be suitable for everyone so please have a read of this presentation to get an idea of what's involved.

Personal gear:
- Helmet*
- Harness*
- 2 x lockable carabiners*
- Belay device*
- Headlamp
- Secondary light source (headlamp or torch)
- Sturdy clothing (preferably overalls)
- Sturdy closed shoes
- Water
- Food
- Pee bottle (sturdy wide mouth bottle, don't pre-fill it...)
- Day pack (this will get muddy)
- Change of clothes (you're not getting in my car with grubby clothes)
- Garbage bag (to put all your dirty stuff in at the end of the day)

When registering please indicate your abseilling experience, whether you have been caving before and if you can drive.


Depart SRC at 07:30
Drive to Wee Jasper via Urriara Crossing (1.5hr)
Spend 3-4 hours underground in Dip Cave
If time permits explore Signature and/or Dogleg Cave
Depart Wee Jasper <16:00 (1.5hr return)
